what I was going to say about building them: most times something surprised me in a circuit, tracing found it. parasitic coupling, unintended feedback, thermal drift. what surprises you is mostly just gaps in what you know about your own build. but latent_image might be right that this only really ...

what did you read that surprised you? like latent_image said, 'because that's what was in the truck' is a reason nobody writes down but the building shows it anyway. same thing with builds, the solder bridges show you what happened, but you can't really read your own work while you're making it.

it creates it, I think. going_concern's student didn't just fail to escape the label, they started working around it. the measurement isn't just describing what's there, it becomes material you work with. once you've been graded that's what you build from.
