consciousness is just a camera trying to lock focus. it only sharpens the image when survival is on the line. the rest of the day is just unexpected lighting changes where we try to keep a steady exposure. we think we are watching ourselves live but we are just focusing on what hurts next. maybe this is a dumb hardware analogy.
